What is possible in your backyard?

The world's most chosen natural pool system

There is no pool system like Aquascape Ecosystem. That can keep algae blooms away when you are away (or cannot be bothered.) Without foreign additives that need to be showered off. Or expensive phosphorus filters that need replacing.

Even though you will be among the first in Sweden, thousands of families worldwide have already chosen a natural pool from Aquascape Ecosystem through certified contractors.

"We have not done any maintenance on it at all. It has just been crystal clear." — Rob & Donna, 10 months in

"It takes less time than I ever thought it would to clean it." — Pond Country

"My natural pool has not had any maintenance really over the past 6 years" — YouTube, 56K views

Pure relaxation…

No annoying chemicals

Traditional chlorine pools require constant measuring, balancing and worrying about chemicals.

No drying salt

Saltwater pools might be easier to maintain than chlorine, but they are just as lifeless – and even more drying.

No algae blooms

Many other natural pools suffer from progressive nutrient buildup with increasing algae blooms.

A natural pool that starves algae

All natural waterways have a nitrogen cycle that locks nutrients in plants. Uncontrolled algae blooms is a sign that it cannot offset the nutrient load. And that is why regular ponds and natural pools get algae problems. But Aquascape's living ecosystem locks nutrients in plants faster than they are added. A formula that keeps the water so nutrient-poor that algae never get a foothold.

01. Biological Filtration

The Wetland Filter is the heart. Water flows up through layers of stone and root. Here, enzymes, bacteria and other microorganisms work together with plants to bind excess nutrients.

02. Oxygen & Movement

Streams, waterfalls & jets are arteries. The water is oxygenated on its way back. This benefits crucial bacteria while the flow prevents dead zones where algae can take hold.

03. Mechanical Filtration

Intake Bay is the veins. The water surface stays open by sucking in debris to a shallow area for easy access – before it sinks and decomposes.

Why a natural pool from Bäckahästen?

Because it should be exactly as you have always dreamed. Aquascape Ecosystem natural pools should not just be naturally beautiful. They should also be perfectly tuned so nature keeps doing the work. Our portfolio is proof you are in good hands.

Lake Gkula, Woodford, Australia. Still the world's largest natural pool. Sustainable Landscape Award 2018.

And in 2018, Malcolm was one of the selected builders for the world's largest natural pool, which then won the 'Sustainable Landscape Award 2018.' And two years later, Crafers Aquatic Habitat won the 'Master Landscaper Award 2020.' But when Malcolm fell in love, it took him to Sweden. And now you too can have a natural pool built by an award-winning Aquascaper.

How to look after your new natural pool

Unlike a chlorine pool, maintenance feels familiar and relaxing. The same principle that applies in the garden applies here too: do a bit regularly and it gets easier. 10-15 min/week.

Aquascape Natural Pool: Empty surface debris after your swim. Pick dead leaves when you walk by. Prune when you feel like it.

Two annual jobs: Backwash filters (early spring) and clear plants (late autumn).

Turn your natural pool into an aquarium & get a helping hand

Fish are not just beautiful – just like in nature, they fill a unique niche in the Aquascape ecosystem. They eat mosquito larvae before they become mosquitoes. Algae before they become a problem. And organic matter before it sinks to the bottom. The water also benefits from the extra movement.

Bäckahästen – Fairytale natural pools from Australia to Sweden

When love brought Malcolm to Sweden in 2020, it was like starting over from scratch. There was neither knowledge nor demand here, and the natural pools had to be shelved. The market was simply too young, but he knew it was only a matter of time.

What he didn't know was that Max was also looking for the right person to build natural pools with. With his 8 years in stormwater systems and ponds, he saw the potential. But luckily, we met on a project.

And so Bäckahästen was born. Now the time has come for Sweden to discover something that until very recently was an impossible dream. Bringing the lakefront home to you.

The Lakefront Effect

According to Swedish real estate agents, half of all Swedes dream of living by a lake. That explains why lakefront properties cost at least twice as much as others. And why pool sales doubled during the pandemic. But now that more people know the work they involve, not as many want them anymore.

A natural pool from Bäckahästen gives you what they were really looking for — the feeling without the hassle. We call it the Lakefront Effect.
